I would like to start out by telling you that the contents of this article only my opinion based on information I have read on the topic of health in addition to more than a decade of eating and living the way I have daily. Couple that with my twice a year blood work which indicates no deficiencies, I feel that this information is valid. It could be that it just works for me, my body type and genetics, I can't say for certain. But, just like smoking cigarettes will probably have an affect on each of us with various degrees of health negatives, eating green smoothies, I believe, will certainly affect each of us with varying degrees of health positives. Try it for yourself, after discussing it with your doctor of course.
The body was made to be able to heal naturally wasn't it? Then why is it that so many people are sick? Maybe it's an inaccurate statement, and the body is not equipped to heal itself? No! The predicament is that people today a) don't provide it with the appropriate amount of tools, by way of diet for the most part, it needs to become whole again and b) we attack it with things that hinder the function of the limited number of essential resources that we actually do provide it.
I'm a huge advocate of raw foods. To suggest that adding heat to foods over and above a specific temperature destroying much needed enzymes that are significant to assimilation makes plenty of sense to me. Beyond that, it is indicated that to get the most out of our foods that we should be chewing it it until it's completely liquefied. Our body has troubles handling big pieces of food. Also, I strongly believe that people can survive off of a diet of chiefly fruits and green vegetables, with of course some healthy fats. For the healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I consume.
My main meals every single day are comprised of lots of raw fruits and green vegetables in the form of green smoothies. Being mostly liquid, my body does a great job of assimilating the nutrients.
A giant hurdle for a lot of people when changing diets, and a big one for myself is managing cravings for bad foods. Like a person addicted to alcohol or drugs must detoxify to be able to heal, we essentially must to do a similar thing. Our cells consist of stuff from the food that we have ingested in the past. The body may crave much of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the makings of each of the sick cells in our body. For drug detoxes, often times, dry sauna therapy is used to sweat out the drugs. This usually helps to eliminate the physical drug cravings allowing the person an improved chance of remaining sober. For us, improving our eating may influence the elimination of toxic foods as well which can be conveniently removed in stool, through sweat and urine. But, we still might crave those foods while some of the toxins in our cells are still present.
I find that instantly after having the first swallow of my green smoothie my cravings for sugar, salt, meat, grease, etc began to dwindle. After I was done drinking the smoothie, the unhealthy cravings were gone completely and I'd be content. The issue then was that the cravings would come again as I became hungry. So I started to make sure I was on top of it and would have another green smoothie available before the cravings would reoccur, or not too long after they started. The cravings finally subsided for good as I cleaned out my system. Then I began to crave greens instead!
